Memory Training

UCLA Center on Aging Memory Training Course
Memory Training provides an innovative educational program for people with age-related memory concerns. Based upon research conducted by Dr. Gary Small at the Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior, the Center on Aging developed Memory Training to further its mission "to enhance and extend productive and healthy life through preeminent research and education on aging." The course is designed to help participants:

Acquire general strategies to improve memory
Remember names and faces
Develop techniques to recall numbers
Learn about factors that effect memory

Course Information
Memory Training presents effective memory-enhancing techniques to individuals and organizations within the Los Angeles area and throughout the nation.

Classes meet for five consecutive weeks, two hours each week.
Volunteer trainers teach the curriculum to small groups of participants.
The course combines trainer presentations with group discussions, memory quizzes, and skill-building exercises.
The interactive classroom environment promotes both education and enjoyment.

How to Arrange a Session
Classes are offered through local organizations such as senior centers, churches, temples, and museums. Organizations are charged a nominal fee.

Individuals not belonging to organized groups can participate in classes held at the Center on Aging, located on the UCLA campus.

Organizations outside of the Center's service area (both within CA and outside of CA) can obtain a license through the UCLA Center on Aging, enabling them to offer the Memory Training program in their own community. We currently have licensed or are planning to license organizations in the following locations:

Chicago, IL
Galveston, TX
Lansdale, PA
Ojai, CA
Iowa City, IA
Silver Springs, MD

Please contact the Center on Aging for further information.
